Does anybody here who knows me think I've really been shy about doing
this? I can't believe even Patrick would say this, so I must assume he's
trying to work around a gap in his reasoning here. (I told this to one
of my cow orkers yesterday and, as I expected, he laughed his ass off at
the idea that I've been keeping silent about the problems of suburbia).

There's a difference between trying to fix things in the long run while
holding your nose and working for the least damaging of the two
realistic options in the short run, and cutting off your nose to spite
your face. Nader voters in 2000 (for the most part) understand this now.
