Because I act on these assumptions, all of which I believe to be quite 
reasonable:

A. Chance of #1 beating either #999 or #1000 in the near-term (next few 
years): 0.0000000%.
B. Chance of #999 beating #1000: 50% or so.
C. How much better is #999 than #1000? Quite a bit.

Nader voters in Florida in 2000 ("Tee Hee Ain't You The Dickens") may 
disagree with this point.

And if you disagree about the chances of #1 in the near-term, you need 
to spend some time out here in the 'burbs. Or, perhaps, you could just 
take my word for it, since I'm continuously immersed in suburban hell 
most of the day, while you work at UT.
