BIKE: Re-evaluation of SCB CE's

My biggest concern is still illumination: what happens when some
unsuspecting bicyclist, biking at night and expecting obstruction-free
bike lanes, slams in to one of these things? The reflectors help a bit,
but they really should have some kind of street lighting, however subtle.
I have the same problem with the black rubber road humps. Try biking
down Park street at night (the standard route to get to HEB from Hyde
Park, NUNA, Northfield, Hampton, East Woods, and West Campus by bicycle)
and you'll see what I'm talking about. The city has installed road
humps near the bottom of a hill at a spot where there is absolutely no
illumination. Even though I know the humps are there, it's still
completely unnerving to bike down this street at night. The fact that
there haven't been any serious injuries yet on this street speaks only
to how few people in our community use bicycles for transportation. As
usual, it will take a serious injury + lawsuit before anything is done
about this.
