BIKE: Whether BicycleAustin is updated, and cross-country route

Congress Avenue is definitely the better route from Slaughter lane to
the Capitol.

South First is the better route from FM 1626 (or by dog-leg connection
from Old San Antonio Road) to Slaughter (and if you cross Slaughter on
South First, take a right at Ralph Ablenado and go over to South
Congress that way to avoid lots of traffic and the intersection of
South Congress and Slaughter.

I ride it frequently.

What's the big plus difference between most of South First and most of
South Congress? CURBS! On South Congress there is a margin for bailing
out and/or using a paved shoulder in some places. And that's based on
lane width and curb or no curb -- without regard to the presence or
absence of bike lane stripes.

Good competent cyclists know where in the lane to ride.

P.S. Just funnin' around until the poker players get here.

When in doubt, ride your bike … or at least write about it!
