Okay, let me just see if I have this straight:
1. Someone complains that BicycleAustin isn't current, complaining that
"1999 is way too 20th century".
2. I post a ten-page listing of all the updates I've actually made
since 1999 through present.
3. That response is deemed "unfortunate".
What the hell?
Maybe the complaint wasn't that the site isn't updated, maybe it's that
I keep older items on the site along with the new? In that case, I'll
have to say it disappoints me that some people don't see the value in
maintaining earlier articles. Like they say, those who don't know
history are doomed to repeat it. The New York Times maintains articles
going back to 1851.
And of course, some stuff just doesn't get dated. I daresay the
article on how to fix a flat tire is as useful today as it was when I
wrote it years ago.
Here's one outfit that "takes BicycleAustin seriously": Adventure
Cycling. Today they sent me a new cross-country route map for the
section that goes from Del Rio, TX to Navasota, TX, using the map I
suggested from BicycleAustin that goes directly through Austin rather
than requiring a cumbersome spur to get to and from it. One change
they made was to have the route take Congress from Slaughter to 12th
Street, while BicycleAustin suggested S. 1st. Is Congress the better
route? I think I've ridden both but neither frequently or recently
enough to compare.
