BIKE: Toll road, monorail troubles, etc.

I was in Vegas last month and rode it.  I really liked it, but I was 
staying next to the convention center, which is a bit off the strip and 
primarily going to meetings on the south side of the strip.  I found it 
wonderful to make the trip for significantly less than the cost of a 
taxi, and not really much slower.

Getting through the casinos is indeed the killer for the monorail.  If 
this thing ran down the middle of las vegas blvd it would be awesome.  
Not only would it be much easier to get around, but it would look 
really cool to see the monorail riding through the lights at night.   
On the topic of signs, I didn't find it too bad, considering the 
monorail hasn't really been functional for much time at all.   But, it 
certainly could have been a lot better.

Another problem with the monorail is that it doesn't run in the 
morning.  If you are attending a conference or training in las vegas, 
you better hope you don't start before 9.  The monorail doesn't run 
until after 8.  Given that you do need some time to get from the train 
to your ultimate destination, it could be tough.    I was there the 
week of some big IBM event and was stuck at the monorail station with 
about 50 IBM guys all waiting for the monorail to get to their 8am 
conference.  To make things worse, the first few trains were full of 
people so some people had to wait for at least the second train.  (only 
5 or 10 minutes, but when you are late you are late)  Ouch.
