BIKE: Low maintenance bike lane fault-finding

"Bike lanes help to establish fault in the event of an accident."
It might, but the bike lane stripe could also be the proverbial double-edged
sword. Does prudently crossing that stripe to take a left, to get out of a
right-turn-only lane, to avoid the debris/hole/trashcan/jogger/SBC feature, to
avoid riding to the right of right-turning traffic put the rider falsely in a
blame-worthy light? Remember that the stripe is a solid line which is
usually reserved for "it's wrong to cross this line with your vehicle"
purposes and that cuts both ways.
Not every silver lining has a cloud, of course, but c'mon--bike lane as
blame-fixer? That's not a big plus even were it very useful in that regard.
The largest portion of bike lane bike-car collisions occurs with turning
traffic or crossing traffic, which of course are the situations where one
expects the car to cross the bike lane stripe. Talk channelization to the
sidewalk rider who's tagged at the driveway or when crossing an intersection.
