AUSTIN, Texas (April 1, 2005) =96 The bike lanes on Shoal Creek
Boulevard will be modified to accommodate Monorail. Upon further
analysis and consultation with neighborhood groups and city traffic
engineers it was determined that the addition of Monorail was the best
use of the transit corridor paralleling MoPAC. When asked why add
Monorail to the dedicated bike lanes also serving as resident parking,
passing lanes and landscape planter boxes, the project engineers
said "why not? =85the addition of monorail just makes sense." Beside the
engineers continued, "we had consultation from Capital Metro to ensure
that rider capacity would never be a problem. So if you don't want to
ride your bike you can ride the Monorail." Construction on the Shoal
Creek Monorail line will begin after re-striping of the existing bike
lanes. Monorail is part of the CAMPO 2250 transit plan for central
Austin.
