Pfluger Bridge Extension Project
Rather than try to describe the various alternatives under consideration,
or present my own opinions how the bridge should be completed, I would
urge you to learn more about the project. The Pfluger Bridge Extension
Project Website already contains a wealth of information and background,
and will soon host links to pdf files depicting eight possible bridge
alignments. Other details will be posted including alignment length, grade
change/cumulative grade change figures, and ease of connections to Lance
Armstrong Bikeway, Market District, Seaholm, etc.

Project consultants from HDR engineering and ROMA design group have also
promised an on-line comment form, intended to gauge preferences from the
many constituencies interested in the project. Make an effort to visit the
web-site, submit your comments, and talk to members of the Community
Advisory Group (CAG).
Primary concerns voiced at the October 13 CAG meeting included:
· Ensure Bowie St. alignment through proposed Gables project on
Lumbermans Tract, facilitating a Bowie St. underpass
· Design and implement safe bicycle crossing at 6th and Bowie signalized
intersection, connecting to Henderson
· Incorporate Lance Armstrong Bikeway into Pfluger Bridge extension
alignment between Cesar Chavez and 3rd St.
The following has been excerpted from the Pfluger Bridge Extension Project
Website:
A Community Advisory Group (CAG) has been created to represent stakeholder
groups and the general public. The Community Advisory Group convened for
its first time on June 24, 2004, and met again on October 13. This phase
of the Pfluger Bridge Extension Project will recommend to the City Council
a conceptual design for the bridges extension to the north. Council will
decide if we are to proceed to the construction phase.
