I wish they'd finish the Shoal Creek Trail too. The City has actually had $1 million set aside to do that since May 2001. Details are online at
http://www.downtownaustin.org/screen_CommitteeDetail.asp?IID=49 .
At this point the City is getting an appraisal on an easement along the west bank below 5th Street, where a new trail segment could connect to the existing trail by Gables West Avenue. Ideally, that appraisal would lead to negotiations with the property owners, purchase of the easements, and stabilization of the bank with the new trail segment.
It's taking longer than it should have, but I'm still hopeful that we'll see some movement within the next couple months.

I was wondering about this. The first time I biked it to find a route to my
art studio so I wouldn't have to get on the streets I was pretty excited to
see the trail go off under West. Then I saw it ended, but I wanted to see
how far away the trail was so I hopped down into Shoal Creek and walked
maybe 200 feet and found the rest of it. I really wish they would finish
out this trail so I wouldn't have to take west and cross 6th to get back on
Shoal Creek Trail. Any ideas if there is ever going to be a project to
finish this part of the trail out?
Thanks,
Jay
