Duncan, I have a few comments on your suggestions.
FM 1325 is very hazardous at La Frontera right now, although they are
putting in sidewalks along parts of it. If I had to ride on FM1325 the
only way I would do it is on sidewalks! Due to the SH 45 construction, you
can't make a left turn from Parker onto FM 1325 unless you go right all the
way to its intersection with I-35 and cross over there. Very noisy and
always lots of traffic.
Metric Blvd below Parmer is scary due to speeding autos, but it can be done.
North of Parmer, Metric is wider. I understand the city is planning to put
in a bike lane stripe on Metric north of Parmer.
If you choose to take this route, it may be preferable to take Metric north
past Howard Lane (Metric changes name to Thermal Drive above Howard) to
Wells Branch Parkway, then go right or east on Wells Branch one block to
Wells Port, take Wells Port north to Grand Avenue, then left or east about
a block to Bratton Lane, right or north on Bratton Lane through an S-curve,
then left or west on Jarrett Way to Parker Lane where Parker intersects with
FM 1325.
I bike this route to work 2 or 3 times a week,, weather permitting, from
Parmer to Parker. The only drawback is I have to spin like crazy for the
one block on Wells Branch Parkway, because the street is so busy I try to
make it through within one cycle of the traffic signal at Thermal & Wells
Branch and get into the middle lane for a left turn onto Wells Port.
