BIKE: Bike theft in Amsterdam

Hi fellow riders,

I've done some travelling to the Netherlands for vacations and biking (I'm 
going again in May) so I stay tuned in to bicycle news from Holland.

Today I found an interesting article that states that, in Amsterdam, they 
are going to equip four bicycle with locks that have a built-in GPS 
device.  The special locks allow the bikes (when stolen) to be tracked thus 
snagging the thief.

It may not deter much theft, but shows how deeply the Dutch care about 
their bicycles.

Amsterdam zet lokfiets in tegen fietsendief

De gemeente Amsterdam gaat lokfietsen inzetten bij de strijd tegen de 
fietsendief. De speciaal ontwikkelde lokfiets heeft een gps-zender, die de 
politie laat weten welke weg een gestolen fiets aflegt. De proef start in 
het voorjaar. De rijwielbranche RAI vereniging heeft vier fietsen 
beschikbaar gesteld.
