Michael,
For whatever reason, I was unable to open the pdf containing the
newspaper story about the person campaigning for the U.S. Senate seat
in Utah, so I took the liberty of locating it and re-transmitting it
as text in case others had a problem, too.
An interesting story!

ST. GEORGE -- With his wife, Mary Dawn Bailey, on the back seat, U.S.
Senate Democratic candidate Paul Van Dam peddled his yellow tandem
bicycle down St. George Boulevard on Saturday.
The duo started the more-than-500-mile Van Dam Bicycle Listening Tour
on May 18 in Boulder. Their purpose: To meet people in the rural
areas and to find out what they care about.
Van Dam said he has found the No. 1 concern of rural Utah residents
is education -- not the economy and not nuclear testing.
"It's easy to stay around the Wasatch Front and finding out what the
issues will be," Van Dam said.
With intern Bentley Mitchell following behind with the campaign van,
Van Dam has visited Escalante, Tropic, Panguitch, Parowan, Cedar City
and St. George. The group plans to visit other areas, including
Springdale, Kanab, Sevier, Richfield, Blanding, Roosevelt and Vernal.
Van Dam said he has heard positive feedback from taking the tour and
a lot of people say they have never seen a senatorial candidate in
their area before.
Van Dam said he and Bailey have enjoyed talking to each other on the
long stretches of highways and interstates. Riding their bike also
gives Van Dam time to think out issues.
Van Dam and Bailey are avid cyclists and have taken part in
competitions at the Huntsman World Senior Games the past two years.
A bicycle tour of Northern Utah is in the planning stages and details
will be announced as they become available.
"The goal is to do 1,000 miles before the election," Bailey said.
"We'll see -- body willing, people willing."
