Fred makes an excellent point and it is one that I and others have 
said several times, i.e., the Las Vegas Strip being what is--a large 
urban theme park (for kids, too, I might add), the monorail may be 
the best choice when all things are considered.  It certainly is long 
overdue and let's all hope it works well because Las Vegas Boulevard 
was a mess in 1968 when I lived there.

Every city is unique and each city's transportation should be unique 
taylored to the conditions in that city.  The problem has been that a 
well-defined set of forces decided early on in the 20th century that 
we, in America, would all be paved, and paved, and paved and run over 
if we didn't get out of the way.  CAMPO did again to us last week.

At least it's cooler where you are Fred!
