BIKE: Showers at Work

Just to add to the chorus on this: I used to bike the 12 miles from downtown to the Arboretum with just a restroom refresher (wet hand towel, body spray, deoderant, antibacterial wipes) and change of clothes at the other end. I was very concerned about stinking but am confident that it wasn't a problem. One thing that helped a lot was to shower immediately before the ride and be well hydrated. I did have some trouble with my riding clothes however and wound up adding a full rinse of them in the washroom upon arriving to the routine. Also, I started doing to do the freshen up routine downstairs in the general restroom for the building after getting too many questions about biking (all when I was walking in with helmet in hand before freshening up, but still made me self-conscious). I would leave my helmet with my bike and stash everything in the bag and would take the elevator up looking like I had just driven in like a normal person. Kinda felt like an alchoholic hiding my
addiction, but based on the periodic questions from coworkers ("let's take your car to lunch", "can you give me a ride" - serious, not in a joking way) my bike riding was a complete unknown to most people and even those close to me would forget that I did it. I really do think it is possible to get by without a shower even in Austin's heat.
