If Round Rock can do it, so can Austin. Let's meet at the southwest end
of Eastwoods Park (just northeast of UT, dead east of Double Dave's
Pizza on Duval) at 5:30 PM, Wednesday, September 22, and ride to Barton
Springs, leaving at 5:45 PM. Suggested route: Elmwood, Duval, San
Jacinto, Eighteenth Street, Congress Avenue, Barton Springs Road,
Riverside Drive, Lamar Boulevard, Toomey Street, Barton Springs Road,
Barton Springs Pool entrance road. I don't think that we should go out
of our way to block traffic, but signs announcing World Carfree Day
would be nice.
Since this is a celebration of a carfree day, please don't come to
the starting point in a car. Instead, if you live too far from the
starting point to get there without a car, why not organize your own
local World Carfree Day ride in your area? It needn't be huge, but it
should be free of cars. Celebratory walks would be good, too. Maybe
next year we can actually get some streets closed to private cars for
World Carfree Day.
