Fair Fellow bikers,
Just wanted to put this out there for the record, and also to remind
folks to be careful. I know everyone is, or tries to be, but as I am
somewhat obsessed with safety when I ride, I see now that it's easy to
become complacent, and I'm now wondering what I might have done to
avoid this.
I had a little accident today on Woodward. Woke up in the ambulance,
which was really weird. A few stiches, a black eye, concussion,
whiplash and lots of road rash, but I think I'm OK.
Not entirely sure what happened, but I think someone pulled out of an
apt parking lot in front of me. I think the last I remember was that
I was heading east on Woodward at a pretty good clip, down the hill
after leaving St. Ed's campus. I was in the bike lane.
I found a note from someone -- a witness, I'm guessing -- amongst my
stuff. They provided name, license, and insurance info for the guy I
hit, as well as their own name. I'm very grateful to that person.
I don't know if there was a police report, but I suspect there was.
Don't know about the bike. They're holding it for me at the apt
complex.
I had a helmet on, and while not wanting to invite a huge argument
over helmet safety, I will offer that, judging by the state of my
helmet now (not to mention the state of my face!), I suspect that I
wouldn't be typing this message if I hadn't had it on.
Please, everyone, be super careful out there. This sucks.
-Lane
