BIKE: Urban Transportation Commission meeting on Mon., Aug. 16

The Urban Transportation Commission (UTC) has an agenda item to
review the proposed budget goals for next year's budget.  The bicycle and
pedestrian subcommittee has recommended that the budget for the Bicycle-
Pedestrian Program should include two planners, and a technician in
addition to the Bicycle-Pedestrian Program Coordinator.  The staff of the
Bicycle-Pedestrian Program has dwindled over the last few years from four
staff members to one.  The shortage of workers has made it difficult for the 
city
staff to achieve the ultimate goal of improving the streets with new 
bikeways.

The UTC meeting will be at One Texas Center, 505 Barton
Springs Rd., at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16 (tomorrow).
