I cannot ever remember the Statesman going on and on about the family and
life and hopes of a cyclist who has been killed by a motorist, but here they
go on and on about this guy's life and family and hopes. Of course cyclists
should not hit motorists over the head with a blunt instrument, even
motorists who do not have the sense to pass on a street like Guadalupe in
the other lane (two lanes in both direction, right?), then seek
confrontation by honking and climbing out of their vehicles--it's far better
just to ride off. But it's impossible for me not to conclude that the
Statesman's coverage was calculated to make cyclists look bad.
