Hi Charles,
Thanks for your interest. We are serving beer but we've got a full complement of people signed up to work the beer tent. But...I tell you what. Usually the beer tent and food/beverage tent are right next to each other, and we ask people to be flexible and move between them if we need them to. If you sign up for food/beverage we can probably shift you to beer/wine and shift some who don't have TABC permits to food/beverage. Does that sound like it would work for you and your wife? We'd love to have you come out!
Pam
The Real Ale Ride is a bicycling event that benefits The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin and Central Texas. It is based in Blanco, TX and takes place on Saturday, May 22, 2010. It covers distances from 15 all the way up to 80 miles. Do you know how many volunteers it takes to cover 80 miles? If you'd like an adventure in the beautiful Texas Hill Country on a spring day, this is for you!
We're looking for help in all shapes and sizes!
On Friday, May 21 we need people in Austin to help with packet pickup and to load up the truck with the supplies we'll need. We need people in Blanco to help mark the course and set up the venue also on Friday.
On Saturday, May 22, the day of the ride, there are all kinds of positions available. For example, we need people at the aid stations to keep the riders stocked on snacks and drinks. We need people along the course at critical turns. I recently rode an event where a sign was missing at a turn. Oh how a volunteer could have helped there! We need people at the venue, helping with food and beverage handouts.
And so much more! Come out to volunteer and stay for the post ride party! Did I mention this is the Real ALE ride? As in Ale? As in beer? Yes, the beer will be flowing! And you'll be rewarded with a T-shirt, breakfast, lunch, and that rewarding feeling of giving back to the community. Don't forget those valuable Pay-It-Forward volunteer points that can be redeemed for credit towards Red Licorice events or merchandise. Don't keep this to yourself! Tell your friends, family, the person sitting next to you on that fancy new train I haven't ridden yet. We can't possibly have too many volunteers!
If you're worried about driving all the way out there, how about carpooling? I've set up a spreadsheet in Google Docs where you can register that you'd like to carpool. Enter your name, contact info, if you're a driver or a rider, and where you want to meet. Search who has already registered to see if you can make a match. This is a do-it-yourself program, so go do it!
Sign up to carpool here - http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= … utput=html
I hope you'll join us! Our volunteers always leave smiling!
