Michael Sannicola was sentenced to a whopping 40 years for a 2022 hit-and-run against...another driver.

Do you think we'll ever see sentences like that when the victim is a bicyclist or pedestrian?

6/12/26 • 11:35pm: Jonathan Hernandez (33, pedestrian, killed). At 600 N. I-35. That would be Eastside Music, with Whole Foods and Target around the corner. I've been to that area many times. Police arrested Martha Flores (34) a few days later. KXAN

For decades I posted individually about hit-and-run cases against cyclists and pedestrians in the Austin area, hoping that some day I might have time to compile the data in table form like I used to do decades ago. That will clearly not happen, so now I'm changing gears: I'm starting this new thread as a place to list *all* hit-and-run cases going forward. I'll try to keep a table of contents / list in this top post with all the cases, but no promises.

First up:

5/30/26 • 10pm: Dominic Dubas (23, pedestrian, critically injured). Near South Congress at William Cannon. (KXAN)

Dubas was walking on the sidewalk when hit by a vehicle going about 50 mph. The suspect is a Mexican national who returned to Mexico and is unlikely to be extradited.
