Join Celia Israel and the team for a bike safety awareness ride in North Austin. Led by Hon. Chris Riley and Jeb Boyt, this bike ride is for everyone! Expect fun stops and political chatter along the way. Wheels down at 8:30am from the corner of W Koenig Ln & Arroyo Seco; we will being and end in the same location.

What you may not know is that the North Austin Coalition of Neighborhoods and Substainable Neighborhoods have been trying to get the fixes suggested by the recent North Lamar/Burnet Study on the November bond package. 

Short version: These roads serve 150,000 people, as well of 3 of the 6 bus routes with the highest ridership. The study showed there was 770 accidents on North Lamar and 440 accidents on Burnet, in a two year period.

We will be hosting the North Austin Candidates Forum, St. Albert's Church on Metric Blvd, April 18th. We willask those running for Mayor and City Council to speak to us about North Austin's issues.

Info on the North Lamar/Burnet Transportation Study will be available as well.

The doors will open at 6:30pm, so there will be time to look at the Study before the forum starts at 7pm. The forum is scheduled to end at 8:30, but we have the hall until 10pm, so people can stay and take a second look at the Study.

We really, really need bicyclists there for two reasons:

One, these two roads are dangerous and need to be fixed.

Two, we need to hear what parts of the study are most important to bicylists.

This is your chance to hear from the candidates on bicycling issues. We will address each campaign race in series: City Council Place 5, Place 6, Place 2, ending with the Mayoral race.

We will have light snacks on hand, while supplies last.

* Friday is the Something Annual Political Pedal

I don't know how long this has been going on, probably decades. Regardless, we once again will gather for the annual "Political Pedal" to celebrate political activism, the start of Bike Month, and the need to take an extremely slow ride around town.

All City Council members and candidates--along with mayoral candidates and other elected officials--have been invited, and usually several attend. This year, APD Chief Art Acevedo has shown interest and may come along, so get ready to cork some intersections! Best yet, the ride ends with the traditional happy hour, this year at Uncle Billy's Brew Pub.

Chris Riley is running for Austin City Council to bring practical solutions to the serious challenges our city is facing. A life-long Austinite, he is also a transportation cyclist who will be a strong advocate for the bicycle community.
